Frequently asked questions
What is Lorem Ipsum text used for?
It's placeholder text used in design mockups and layouts so viewers focus on visual design rather than being distracted by readable content.
Why does Lorem Ipsum look like Latin?
It's derived from a passage of Cicero's 1st-century BC text on Latin ethics - the words were scrambled and altered over centuries of use in printing and typesetting to become the standard placeholder text used today.
Is Lorem Ipsum actual Latin with real meaning?
No - it's scrambled and altered from a passage of Cicero's writing from 45 BC, to the point that it no longer forms coherent Latin sentences. That's intentional: it needs to look like real language at a glance without any actual meaning that could distract from evaluating a design.
Why is Lorem Ipsum still used when other placeholder text options exist?
Lorem Ipsum's word lengths and letter frequencies roughly mimic real Latin-derived languages like English, so it fills a layout with a realistic visual weight and paragraph rhythm without the reader getting distracted trying to actually read it - unlike 'the quick brown fox' style filler, which pulls attention to its meaning.
Can I control exactly how long each paragraph is?
Yes, approximately - the "words per paragraph" setting controls the target word count for each paragraph, from 5 up to 200 words, letting you roughly match how much text a design mockup needs to fill.
Does the generated text repeat the same sentences every time?
The output is built from the traditional Lorem Ipsum word/phrase pool, so wording will look familiar across generations, though the arrangement and paragraph lengths change based on your paragraph count and words-per-paragraph settings.
Can I use Lorem Ipsum text in a real, published website?
It's meant strictly as placeholder text for mockups and drafts, not final content - Lorem Ipsum has no real meaning and won't help readers or search engines, so replace it with real copy before a design goes live.
