Frequently asked questions
How does this generate a random date?
It picks a random point in time uniformly between your start and end dates (converted to timestamps), then converts that random timestamp back into a calendar date - every day in the range has an equal chance of being picked.
Can I generate multiple random dates at once?
Yes - set "how many dates" to any value up to 20 to generate that many random dates from the same range in one click.
What could this be used for?
Common uses include picking a random testing date, generating sample data for software testing, randomly assigning a date for a drawing or giveaway, or any scenario needing an unbiased random pick from a range of dates.
Is 'get random date' the same as this random date generator?
Yes - choose your start date, end date, and how many dates you need above, then click Calculate to get one or more random dates.
Can the same random date be generated twice if I ask for multiple dates?
Yes - each date is picked independently, so with a wide enough range and enough picks, duplicates are possible, similar to rolling the same number twice on a die.
If I set the range to just one single day, what happens?
Setting the start and end date to the same day returns that day every time, since there's only one possible date in the range to pick from.
How is this different from a 'random day of the week' generator?
This tool picks a full calendar date (day, month, and year) from your chosen range, not just a weekday name - if you only need a random weekday, you'd want a simpler day-of-week picker instead.
