Actual Yield Calculator
Choose what you want to find: actual yield from theoretical yield and percent yield, percent yield from actual and theoretical yield, or theoretical yield from actual yield and percent yield. Values above 100% are shown as calculated.

Frequently asked questions
What is the formula for percent yield?
Percent yield = actual yield / theoretical yield × 100. Rearranged, actual yield = theoretical yield × percent yield / 100.
What is the difference between actual and theoretical yield?
Theoretical yield is the maximum product predicted by stoichiometry, and actual yield is the amount you really obtain and measure.
Can percent yield be above 100%?
The calculator shows what the numbers give and does not cap the value. A measured yield above theoretical usually signals impurities, leftover solvent or water, weighing errors, or a mistake in the theoretical value.
Do units matter?
Yes. Enter actual and theoretical yield in the same unit. The percent yield itself is unitless.
Why is theoretical yield required to be nonzero?
Percent yield divides by theoretical yield, so a zero value makes the calculation undefined.
How is this different from crop yield calculators?
This is a chemistry calculator for the amount of product from a reaction. The Corn Yield and Vegetable Yield calculators estimate agricultural harvests and use unrelated inputs.
